There should be

no room for complacency, cautions

Markapur MLA

ONGOLE: The District Congress Committee has exhorted party workers to campaign about the welfare and developmental programmes being implemented by the government in the State and help the party return to power again.

Addressing the newly constituted district party executive committee here on Wednesday, DCC president Pothula Ramarao expressed confidence that the party would retain power as it faced no anti-incumbency factor in the State. He called upon the executive to make the two programmes of the party – human chain on December 28 and Sankshema Sambaralu on January 3 – a success. Senior MLA from Markapur K.P. Konda Reddy cautioned the party not to be overconfident. Unless the party workers strained themselves, it would be difficult to come back to power, he felt.

Economic reforms

Ongole MLA Balineni Srinivasa Reddy paid tributes to the former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, on the occasion of his death anniversary. It was Narasimha Rao who contemplated DWACRA groups for women development and the credit should go to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for providing loans under ‘pavala vaddi’ scheme for them. But TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu was taking credit for the movement, he said.

Parchoor MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Rao said that the economic reforms ushered in by Narasimha Rao put the country on a new trajectory of development so much that neither the BJP nor the Left parties could change them later. The reforms helped the country sustain 8 per cent growth rate even in the present global recession, he felt. He felt the need to campaign about pensions, ration cards, housing, Arogya Sri, loan waiver and free power for farmers etc., to counter Opposition criticism.
