Congress plans to expose alliance leaders

HYDERABAD: The Congress has decided to expose the grand alliance comprising the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the Left parties for their doublespeak and ‘hidden agenda’ in joining hands.

A day after the announcement of the alliance between these major political parties, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday reviewed the political situation with his close aides and Ministers, who met him at his camp office after his return from the two-day tour of West Godavari district.

Dr. Reddy is believed to have likened the alliance as ‘sheer opportunism and unholy tie-up’ of leaders, who were desperate to oust the Congress. “The single point agenda of these parties is to defeat Congress for which, they will not hesitate to sink their differences, ideologies and policies.”

He reportedly maintained that there was no comparison between the Congress-led alliance of 2004 and the grand alliance. “The situation then was totally different. People and parties wanted to defeat the TDP at any cost. Today there is no anti-incumbency factor at all,” he observed.

He was quoted as saying that the partymen should seize the opportunity to expose the unholy alliance. He predicted that the internal bickering, differences during selection of candidates and mutual distrust would cause irreparable damage to the alliance.
