Congress observer pats district unit

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) general secretary and observer M. Rajagopal Vinod Reddy said on Thursday that he was very happy with the way the birth anniversaries of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi were celebrated in a fitting manner in Krishna district.

Addressing a press conference at Andhra Ratna Bhavan, Mr. Reddy said that the PCC was giving great importance to the celebrations of these two anniversaries. The committee deputed him to oversee the way the celebrations were conducted and submit a report.

He said that the Children’s Day was celebrated with great zest under the supervision of MP Lagadapati Rajagopal. The 91st birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi was also celebrated on huge scale under the auspices of Legislative Council Member Ilapuram Venkaiah. Mr. Venkaiah distributed 11,000 saris to widows on the occasion graced by leaders like Home Minister K. Jana Reddy. Rice was distributed to the poor in Gudivada on the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, he said.

Mr. Reddy said he would submit a report to PCC president D. Srinivas with details and newspaper clippings.
