GUNTUR: A comprehensive development plan must be prepared for Guntur district within the next couple of months so that it could be implemented from the coming financial year, District Planning Committee Chairperson and Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya has said.

Presiding over a meeting of heads of all government departments and other officials here on Saturday, she advised all the officials to prepare the estimates and plan proper development in their respective wings so that proper approval could be taken in time and implemented with a coordinated effort.

At the meeting attended by Mayor Rayapati Mohan Saikrishna, and Joint Collector Kantilal Dande, she wanted the agriculture department officials to prepare proper plan for supply of fertilizers, seeds and pesticides in time for the maize, chilli and paddy crops in the Rabi season.

During coming season proper plan for improving the cropped area under these three crops should go up by at least five per cent, she said.

All departments concerned and agencies should come together to work in a coordinated manner to provide subsidies, bank loans, and make farmers aware of the care to be taken to get higher yields during rabi.

Use of pesticides judiciously should be the order of the day, she added.

The Mid-Day meal scheme was being implemented in 3,998 schools of three levels benefitting 3.10 lakh students, she said.

On the health front, she said that the district had got 10 vehicles to provide 104 services.

Those manning the vehicles should advise the people on how to go about and where to take further medical advice or what kind of precautionary measures should be taken, she said.

The Joint Collector said sufficient quantity of fertilizer had arrived in the district, but due to lack of proper planning during khariff farmers were put to hardship and such things should not recur during Rabi.

MLC Rayapati Srinivas wanted compensation paid to all people who had lost their chilli crop due to untimely rains.
