Civic official inspects sanitation

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Commissioner Siddharth Jain on Saturday conducted surprise checks at all important junctions in the city to ensure that sanitation was being taken care of by the public health officials.

He took to task several sanitation officials and workers and directed them to ensure that none of the important junctions like Sankar Vilas, A.T. Agraharam, Rajendra Nagar, T.B. Road and Lakshmipuram were left with garbage accumulation or sand and dust on the road margins towards the median.

Mr. Jain visited all the localities and reviewed the exact need for number of workers at each junction.

He advised the Municipal Health Officer to draw a proper plan for the deployment of sanitation officials and come out with a proper implementation plan in which all the sanitary inspectors would be held responsible for effective utilisation of their services.

Water supply

Commissioner interacted with the sanitary inspector over his wireless set and got the status report at 7 a.m. and gave necessary directions. Power cut on Friday night had resulted in the non-supply of water to several areas. He directed the Municipal Engineer and the Divisional Engineer Water Works to arrange for water supply through tankers.

People in Sai Krishnanagar in Brodipet were suffering with open manholes and improper drainage, which he inspected in the morning and asked the Divisional Engineer to take corrective measures and sanctioned the bills on the spot for the properly completed manholes and drain works.

Green medians at all traffic islands in the city would be improved, he told the reporters and asked officials to make estimates for the works. Lighting at the junctions would also be improved by replacing all the power bulbs that were functioning.

I-Day fete

He also announced that the 60th anniversary of Indian Independence would be celebrated in a grand manner in the Guntur Municipal Corporation.

Some of the freedom fighters living in the city would be felicitated on the occasion, he added. Self Help Groups would be involved in the celebrations and several competitions would be organised for the children and the prizes would given in the schools.
