City may get preferential delivery of LPG soon

Refills to be delivered at time and date of consumers' choice

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is likely to launch preferential time delivery of LPG cylinders soon in the city. Sources said Visakhapatnam will be considered the next destination for launching the value-added service after its introduction in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Working couples will be benefited due to the scheme. LPG refills can be delivered at the time and date of choice of the consumers and they will be charged a nominal amount for the delivery. In case of any delay on the part of dealer, the extra amount will be waived. Asked to comment on the timing of launch in the city, IOC Executive Director (AP operations) N. Srikumar said based on success in Hyderabad, they would finalise the date for tier-two cities and towns.

Piped gas supply

Asked about their plans for piped gas, Mr. Srikumar said wherever there was a demand they were ready to arrange piped gas.

The piped gas, which is now available in the city only in a few residential complexes, will be in high demand once integrated townships proposed on the city suburbs take final shape. There is heavy demand for LPG connections and official sources said, the number of connections sanctioned was 53 lakh in 2008-09 and it went up to 86 lakh in 2009-10. Under Rajiv Gandhi Gremeena LPG, connections are issued liberally. Mr. Srikumar said they had decided to clear the wait-listed applications for new connections in the city within 45 days.

He said in the entire State, they were expecting the clear the pending applications by September-end.
