Chiru open for truck with Left parties

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi, while ruling out an electoral alliance with the Telugu Desam Party, on Tuesday said he was open for a truck with the Left parties.

Asked for his reaction to Monday’s statement of CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan, of an alliance with other parties, he said he was open to the proposition. “We are discussing the prospects of such a friendship and if it would be in tune with the ideology of social justice,” he said.

Now that the Election Commission had recognised the Praja Rajyam and given the choice of a symbol, Mr. Chiranjeevi said the hunt was on for a symbol that would reflect the party’s thinking and ideology. To repeated questions, he said they had short-listed four or five symbols and that he would announce the final one to the media.

On the Centre’s decision to impose a ban on CPI (Maoist), he recalled that since its inception, the party was of the view that the problem needed to be viewed as a socio-political and economic issue and not merely as one of law and order.
