Central forces: Collector writes to TB Board

Collector Ramsankar Naik urged the secretary of Tungabhadra Board to deploy central forces to monitor the flow of water in the Tungabhadra Low Level Canal that supplied water to over one lakh acres in Kurnool district.

Mr. Naik pointed out that even thought the reservoir was full and drawing from the reservoir was normal, the flow at the AP border was far less than its share.

The farmers in the upper reaches were drawing more than their due share. Apart from it, some of the farmers were illegally drawing using pipes. He said the local police and revenue officials who were under pressure from the local farmers were unable to check the water pilferage necessitating the deployment of central forces such as Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF).

Letter to SP

Mr. Naik also wrote to the Collector and Superintendent of Police of Bellary about the issue and sought their cooperation. The issue was brought to the notice of the Principal Secretary of Irrigation of Andhra Pradesh who was a member on the Tungabhadra Board.
