State decision to bear the hike in gas price appreciated

VIJAYAWADA: It was ‘celebration’ time for Congress activists in One Town. After the Opposition parties staged several cooking sessions on roads to protest against the hike in the price of LPG, it was the turn of Congress activists to do the same, but in appreciation of the State government’s decision to absorb the Rs.50 hike in the price of cooking gas cylinder.

Former Congress corporator Dadi Appa Rao and his followers erected shamiyanas and prepared ‘paravannam’, ‘payasam’ and ‘biryani’ on cooking gas in the street at Panja Centre to celebrate Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s decision to subsidise LPG price. Womenfolk arranged stoves and gas cylinders in a row on the street and cooked the dishes to express their appreciation of the government’s announcement.

Mr. Appa Rao said CPI(M) activists should have given a second thought before coming up with the novel protest of cooking food with firewood to express their protest against the hike in LPG prices. They were now obliged to take up the protest to West Bengal, because the CPI (M) government at the helm of affairs there had not announced a subsidy like the Andhra Pradesh government, he said.
