Telugu Mahila president inspects damaged left canal of Nagarjunasagar project

NALGONDA: Actress-turned-politician and chief of Telugu Mahila, women’s wing of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Roja, has charged the Congress government with neglecting the left canal of the Nagarjunasagar project.

After inspecting some damaged portions of the left canal and the tailpond project in Nalgonda district on Thursday, she made corruption charges against the government.

She asked that the government to consider the views of farmers while taking up repair works besides ensuring transparency in spending on irrigation projects.

Review meeting

She also took part in a review meeting of the irrigation scenario organised by the Telangana Matti Manushulu, an organisation formed by former sarpanch Venepalli Pandu Ranga Rao. Apart from the noted film director N. Shankar, the district unit presidents of the Telangana Rastra Samithi and Bharatiya Janata Party B. Somi Reddy and G. Madhusudan Reddy respectively also took part in the review.

Water release

Addressing a meeting at Adavidevulapally, where the tailpond project will be coming up, Mr. Pandu Ranga Rao asked the government to announce the dates for the release of water for the second crop. “The government must adopt practical ways to address the irrigation woes of farmers. You should consider the views of farmers while taking up repair works. If you go by old plans, the left canal would become useless at a later stage,” Mr. Rao said.
