Call to give publicity to rice scheme

ONGOLE: The District Congress Committee has exhorted party workers to give wide publicity to the Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme being launched in the State on April 9.

Some 1000 party workers attended the extended general body meeting convened here on Sunday to step up campaign in villages.

MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, MLAs Balineni Srinivasa Reddy (Ongole), Pothula Ramarao (Kondepi), M. Mahidhara Reddy (Kandukur), Udumula Sreenivasa Reddy (Cumbum), K.P. Konda Reddy (Markapur), Dara Sambaiah (Santanutalapadu), G. Ravikumar (Martur) attended. DCC president G.V. Seshu presided.

The meeting, however, started on a sour note with Katam Pushpalatha, a PCC member and follower of Mr. Sambaiah, creating a scene as she “did not get an invitation for the meeting.”

Effigy burnt

The meeting later turned its ire on TDP district president and Addanki MLA Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthi for making “unwarranted” comments against Finance Minister K. Rosaiah, Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy and Deputy Speaker Kutuhalamma. They also protested against the burning of Mr. Rosaiah’s effigy by TDP workers in Chirala.

The Congress workers also burnt the effigy of Mr. Balaramakrishna Murthi at the Court centre.
