WARANGAL: A member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Prathighatana group of naxals, Shyamakuri Srinu alias Naganna, surrendered to the police along with a Springfield rifle and 46 live rounds of ammunition in the presence of Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra here on Saturday.

Srinu (25) is a native of Kothapet village, Bayyaram mandal in Khammam district. He joined the naxal party in September 2006.

Speaking to media persons, he said he had approached the naxals requesting them to sort out a family dispute.

The naxals promised to do so and asked him to join them for some time.

Evades reply

But, even after one year, they evaded a reply. Having learnt about ‘Velugu Bata’ programme, which encouraged the surrender of underground cadre and about the rehabilitation being promised by the police, he decided to give up.

The SP said the Warangal police were very friendly and any underground cadre willing to surrender could approach them without any fear.
