CPI for speedy completion of irrigation projects

KADAPA: The Government should make adequate budget allocation for Galeru Nagari, Handri Neeva and other irrigation projects and complete them expeditiously, CPI State Secretariat member T. Lakshminarayana said.

The Government enthusiastically granted budgetary outlay of Rs. 10,000 crores last year but funds were not used properly leading to escalation of project costs thus burdening the exchequer and benefiting contractors, he alleged at a press conference.

He urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to expedite land acquisition and project works.

Poser to TDP

Demanding TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu to spell out his stand on Pothireddypadu, he charged the party and other parties with raking up needless controversies on the issue.

Welcoming raids to curb hoarding, he said artificial scarcity created by MNCs caused price rise. As the Government planned to implement World Bank conditions, poorer sections lack food security, he said. He advised the Government to book criminal cases and prosecute those creating artificial scarcity.

He demanded ban of export of food grains, steps to provide remunerative prices to ryots and strengthening of PDS. Calling for a separate machinery to provide remunerative prices to ryots, he sought cold storage facilities for them. Referring to criticism that farmers' lands were being handed over to private companies in the name of special economic zones, he demanded cancellation of lease and resumption of lands if the firms did not set up units in the stipulated time.

Place report

The Government must place Koneru Ranga Rao committee report on assigned lands in the Assembly and implement it in toto, he said.
