MLA joins Karunakar Reddy in ‘Samaikyandhra’ cause

TIRUPATI: Chittoor MLA C.K. Babu launched a fast unto death at Tirupati for the cause of ‘Samaikyandhra’ on Sunday.

He threw his lot behind former TTD Board Chairman B. Karunakar Reddy who, along with other party cadres, has been leading the United Andhra stir with a hunger strike camp put up in front of the Corporation building here. Police force was deployed at the camp in view of the threat perception to C.K. Babu who survived attempts on his life twice at Chittoor. Congress leaders have given a call for a ‘total bandh’ of Tirupati and Chittoor on Monday expressing solidarity with the Chittoor MLA.

Incessant rains

Meanwhile, braving incessant rain and inclement weather, the two Congress leaders, along with others, continued their fast in their make-shift tent pitched outside the Corporation office. SVU students under the banner of the JAC also are continuing their relay-fast in front of the campus despite rain even as the TDP’s relay fast also continued unabated sustaining the tempo. Reports of similar fasts have come in from other major towns of the district.
