Builders violating rules taken to task

Special Correspondent

Hyderabad: The GHMC, for the first time after the common building rules came into affect, took over a mortaged share of a commercial complex for being built in violation of rules on Saturday. As per the common building rules that came into vogue couple of years ago, any building above ground plus two has to mortgage 10 per cent of the built-up area to the sanctioning authority and the same is put in a separate register in the registration department offices. The area is ‘released’ for sale only if the building is constructed as per the sanctioned plan.

First victim

Although quite a number of buildings had come to the notice of the municipal corporation of having deviations even after the mortgage clause came into being, no precipitate action was taken till today. The unlucky and first such victim being Arun Kumar, owner of a ground plus four commercial complex on Jubilee Hills Road No.36 (plot 797/A). He had taken permission for a cellar and sub-cellar too, but built a ramp on the setbacks portion violating the permitted plan.

Municipal officials led by Special Commissioner Praveen Prakash, Zonal Commissioner Bhaskar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ravi Kiran and others inspected the building and ‘occupied’ the second floor portion which is yet to have walls.
