Cultural programmes dominate fourth anniversary celebrations

TDP leaders decry Chiranjeevi’s comparison with N.T.Rama Rao

ANANTAPUR: Rich tributes were paid to slain Telugu Desam leader Paritala Ravindra on his fourth death anniversary at his native village, Venkatapuram on Saturday. Party leaders and followers from across the district and State turned up for the anniversary and paid floral tributes at his memorial.

The fourth anniversary was different from the previous three, with no public meeting on the occasion. With a crisp introduction by his widow, Penukonda legislator Paritala Sunita, the dais was set for cultural programmes.

A major blood donation camp was organised to mark the occasion with 3,000 followers of Paritala Ravi donating blood. Song-narrative on life of Ravi, as part of the cultural show, kept the audience engrossed. There was a rousing response from the gathering when Ms. Sunita joined the chorus.

Ms. Sunita said, the huge turnout was ample indication that Ravi was still alive in the hearts of people and reminded her of the duty to stand by the people who believed in her husband. Later, speaking to media persons, party leaders K.E. Krishnamurthy and K. Balaram expressed similar sentiments.

The party had already decided to encourage Ms. Sunita to serve people in better capacity if it was voted to power in the coming elections, they said. The Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government was encouraging bloody politics and accused in criminal cases were being encouraged with key public posts, they alleged. Unable to take criticism in the right spirit, the Chief Minister was even trying to censure media on every given opportunity.

Corruption peaked in the present government and it was trying to confuse the people by issuing large advertisements on its ‘achievements’ spending huge funds, whenever corruption-related issues were hogging limelight in the media, with a view to overshadow the exposure, the TDP leaders alleged. People would teach a fitting lesson to such regime at an appropriate time, they asserted.

PR flayed

Slamming Chiranjeevi, they said he appeared to be only power hungry and there was no comparison between him and N.T. Rama Rao. They accused the PR chief of allowing only the rich into his party. Party leaders V. Hanumantharaya Chowdary, B.C. Govindappa, P. Keshav, P. Ranganayakulu, M. Govinda Reddy, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, K. Srinivasulu, K.M. Saifullah and B.K. Parthasarathi, N. Kistappa, P. Shamanthakamani attended.
