Bandaru suggests steps to control floods

Demands compensation of Rs.2,000 per acre for paddy



VIZIANAGARAM: Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP State president, has suggested

construction of protection walls to control recurring floods to Krishna, Godavari and Vamsadhara.

Mr. Dattatreya, who visited flood affected areas in Srikakulam district on Saturday, told a press conference held at at R & B guest house here in the evening that about 100 villages were submerged and of them 26 were completely cut off from the remaining world.

He demanded compensation of Rs.2,000 per acre for transplanted paddy and Rs.5,000 per acre for sugarcane.

Stating that the party would work for the cause of farmers, he asked the government to drop the land acquisition proposal for Jindal Alumina at S.Kota and Beach Sand project in coastal mandals of the district because the farmers and the fishermen there were opposing the units.

He said the Digvijay Singh’s suggestion for a Central land reforms commission was to side-track the State issue.

He said that the party would chalk-out a plan on August 14 and strengthen it from grassroot level in all the mandals in the State.

State Dalit Morcha president Paka Raja Rao, district president K.V.N.R. Prasad and others were present.
