East Godavari tops in State with 13 per cent growth rate

Rajahmundry: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) General Manager G. Raghavendra Rao announced that East Godavari Telecom District stood in the first place in the State, with a growth rate of 13 per cent.

A road map to sanction 1 lakh telephone connections in addition to the existing 1,80,000 was drawn, he told media persons at the Sanchar Bhavan here on Tuesday.

The district has 1, 20,000 mobile phone connections and 11,800 broadband connections. Besides, the upcoming rural broadband service was expanded to 112 telephone exchanges.

Web conferencing facility and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) would be launched soon. BSNL customers get a land line connection, broadband facility and IPTV under a single package.

Mr. Raghavendra Rao said that 16 cell phone towers would be set up in addition to the existing 119 and emphasised the need to promote basic phone connections.

Deputy General Managers G. Manoj Kumar (A&P) and G.V. Rama Krishna (F&A) were present.
