BSNL ‘workers alliance’ rues government apathy

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: Telecom workers affiliated to the ‘BSNL Workers Alliance’ comprising nine unions led by NFTE-BSNL met here on Thursday and bemoaned the ‘deterioration’ in the working of the public sector giant owing to the alleged failure of the government in taking up ‘expansion’ work during the last two or three years.

They also regretted that the recognised and the representative union ‘BSNL Employees Union’ had completely failed to protect the interest of the company and the staff as well.

In a statement, they criticised that though wage revision was due from January 1, 2007, the recognised union failed to even initiate negations for the last two years.

The statement said the alliance would launch agitational measures from November 25 and would hold dharna on December 2 and a one-day token strike on December 19.
