BRGF: CPI criticises government

CPI district secretary K. Ramanjaneyulu criticised the government for excluding Kurnool district from the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) saying it was unfair to overlook the district which was known for perennial droughts. In a statement, he said the per capita income was one of the lowest in the State yet the government, which included many districts more forward than Kurnool, excluded the place.

He said Kurnool was the place where highest number of child labour existed in the whole country.

Meanwhile, president of Rayalaseema Telengana and Uttarandhra Forum N. Sriramulu and K. Satyanarayana hailed the decision of the government to create fund for the backward areas.

He said the forum was demanding the government for special package for development of the backward areas for long.

It was better late than never to initiate such step to develop the backward areas.

Mr. Sriramulu said they would discuss the exclusion of Kurnool from the fund on some other occasion but described the step as positive.
