Party urges government to bring back normalcy in Hyderabad

Party activists burn Lagadapati Rajagopal's effigy

BJP has no role in present violence, says its city unit president

VIJAYAWADA: Finding fault with the statement given by local MP Lagadapati Rajagopal accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of masterminding the communal violence in Old City of Hyderabad, activists of the BJP's city unit on Wednesday burnt the effigy of Mr. Rajagopal at Vijaya Talkies centre.

The activists took out a procession from the party's office at Suryaraopet to Vijaya talkies centre with the effigy and raised slogans against the MP.

Addressing the activists, president of the BJP's city unit K. Venkata Pitchaiah wondered why Mr. Rajagopal was resorting to mud slinging on the BJP.

Call for restraint

“Even as the Congress party leader J.C. Diwakar Reddy is suspecting the involvement of a section of leaders from their own party in the communal violence, how can Mr. Rajagopal blame the BJP?” he asked.

He said that the BJP had no role in the present violence in Old City, but it was appealing to the public to maintain restraint.

“Similarly, the government is requested to take steps to bring back normalcy in the State's capital,” he said.

Mr. Pitchaiah observed that it became a regular practice for some political parties to name BJP whenever there was a communal violence.

“Our party is not against any religion. It was the BJP which made A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as President,” he recalled.

Party leaders L.R.K. Prasad, Uma Maheswar Raju, A. Sriram, B. Nagalakshmi and others participated.
