KARIMNAGAR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has asked the State government to take up the ambitious multi-purpose Inchampalli project on the Godavari for utilizing surplus waters on par with that of Polavaram project.

Flaying the government for neglecting the Inchampalli project of Telangana region on the pretext of submergence of forestslands and inter-State disputes, he said that the Polavaram project would also submerge precious forest reserves and displace several lakhs of people in the State and neighbouring States.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said that the Godavari flows through 80 per cent of the Telangana region, but only 20 per cent of water was being utilized till date in the region. He urged Minister for Higher Education D. Sreedhar Babu to take up the issue and ensure the construction of step-ladder projects and small reservoirs across the river to utilise the surplus waters in the Telangana region.

He also flayed the Maharashtra government for constructing Babli and other projects illegally across the Godavari and denying water to the SRSP. He flayed the State for claiming the credit of taking up of ‘Jalayagnam’ when the neighbouring Maharashtra and Karanataka States were completing several projects without any media hype and denying water to Andhra Pradesh.
