BERHAMPUR: The Ganjam unit of the BJD has demanded the arrest of former State Finance Minister and Congress leader Ramkrushna Patnaik.

Speaking to newsmen at a press conference on Wednesday, district BJD president, Rebati Mohan Nayak alleged that Mr Patnaik with the help of his supporters was trying to disrupt administrative and developmental work at different blocks of the district.

He cited the example of ransacking of block offices at Khallikote and Beguniapada. He and other office-bearers of the district unit condemned the allegedly politically motivated FIRs with charges of sexual exploitation filed against the BDOs of Khallikote and Beguniapada.

These two BDOs had filed FIRs against Mr Patnaik and his supporters for allegedly ransacking block offices. Mr Nayak said "If this kind of blackmailing of Government officials continues it would be hard for them to implement developmental programs in rural areas".

The BJD leaders said they would press the State Government to take strict action against Mr Patnaik and his supporters to stop their plan to disrupt developmental works at block level.

Mr Patnaik, who was a key man in the BJD was expelled from the BJD later he joined the Congress.

The Ganjam unit of the BJD is now trying to build up its organizational strength in Ganjam district before elections for urban bodies next year and the assembly elections in 2009.
