TIRUPATI: For the residents of C.Gollapalle in Tirupati rural mandal, standing in queues, pleading with officials or pampering village assistants for getting a service will soon be a thing of the past. This sleepy village is set to be part of the information revolution that will sweep the Panchayat Raj institutions to (knowledge) power!

e-Panchayat Raj Institutions (EPRI) mission mode project (MMP)was envisaged at the national level to link the Panchayat Raj institutions at the State, district and village levels through automation and networking with an aim to provide all the civic services online. The residents of this minor panchayat will soon get information and valuable data on State-sponsored schemes.

Pilot scheme on

The pilot scheme is currently under implementation in one minor and one major panchayat of Chittoor and Anantapur districts. Piler, a major panchayat in the district, is the other village where the scheme has been taken up. Though the civic services are offered by various line departments, the delivery is mostly through the PR institutions.

A gram sabha was conducted in the village on Tuesday, where the women were enlightened about the features of the scheme, the benefits a panchayat could derive through computerisation, advantages of capturing data in online management of registers and easy flow of information on schemes like NREGS. The villagers poured forth their grievances over securing a marriage or death certificate. Based on the inputs collected at the gram sabha, the requirements will be incorporated in the system during the design and development stage.
