HYDERABAD: Even as city dwellers have welcomed the cut in petrol and diesel prices, the Autorickshaw Drivers' Joint Action Committee has made it clear that it will not reduce auto fares.

"In November 2005 when the auto fares were revised, the cost of petrol was Rs.49.19 per litre and the present cost is Rs.48.85.

There is no considerable variation in the price and hence, there is no question of revising the fare," committee convenor Mohd. Amanullah Khan said here on Friday.

The last reduction in the fuel prices of petrol and diesel, by Rs. 2 and Re.1, took place on November 29 last. After the revival of fuel prices on Thursday, diesel costs Rs.33.83 per litre in the city.

He warned the Government that if it failed to control essential commodities' prices, autorickshaw drivers ould be forced to increase fares in future.
