Exhibition gets under way in Rajahmundry

Rajahmundry: Colours from the brushes of artists from West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh have communicated their feelings, spoke about nature, touched different facets of life, pursued many aspects of art during an art exhibition arranged here on Saturday.

The exhibition is being arranged in this cultural capital of the State, where the great artists Damerla Ramarao hailed from.

Senior IAS officer and artist Chandana Khan inaugurated the exhibition jointly organised by Pegasus Art Gallery, Hyderabad and River Bay Resort, Rajahmundry.

The sprawling Godavari river formed the ideal backdrop for the art camp.

It was attended by artists like Y. Giri, Narappa (Hyderabad), Guvvala Kennedy and Padma (Rajahmundry) and Parag Adhikari, Swapan Pelly, Symal Mukherjee, Anup Giri, Sagar Bhowmik, Jahar Das Gupta, Bijan Choudhary and others from Kolkata.

Art camp

Chandana Khan said the concept of the Art Camp is that artists well known from their different styles of painting in different mediums are going to paint during the camp in public view till August 14.

Ornamental expression

“Art is not just a vehicle for them for ornamental expression of their aesthetic experiences, but is also a vehicle for showing their serious concerns about the world through forms and colours,” Ms. Khan said.

In the exhibition, human anxiety, the underdogs, the environment and of course the many facets of women find expression in their paintings.

Among the artists, Giri is known for his masterly handling of landscapes, Sri Bijan Choudhury for his horses and women figures, Sri Anup Giri for his depiction of tribal men and women in harmony among themselves.

Parag Adhikari is known for his bold strokes and realistic presentation of every day reality and Guvvala Kennedy couple are known for their strokes as well as nature painting along with women.
