Section 144 imposed

The police have imposed Section 144 in all areas falling under the jurisdiction of I, II, III, IV, V Town, Gopalapatnam, Pendurthy, Kancharapalem and Harbour Police Stations from Saturday to 6 p.m. on February 19.

Liquor sale stopped

Sale of liquor will not be allowed from Saturday to February 19 in view of elections, According to excise inspector (Circle II) Ch. Tirupathi Naidu, the supply of liquor to wine shops, bars, clubs and even star hotels would be suspended during the period. He appealed to licence holders and the public to cooperate.

Paid holiday

The day of poll (February 19) has been declared a paid holiday to all employees, workers employed in shops and establishments situated in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, according to Deputy Commissioner of Labour M.N. Varahala Reddy.

The Government has also declared a holiday for industrial undertakings/establishments that are working on shift basis and it is clarified that the holiday will be only for the shift during which the poll is to be held in areas in GVMC.

Phone bill date extended

The BSNL has extended the pay-by-date of local public telephones bills up to February 21 due to continuous holidays declared on Saturday, Sunday and local holiday on Monday.
