Kakinada: The Kakinada zone of the Andhra Bank stood first in the country in the bank linkage to woman self-help groups by lending Rs.114 crores to 21,544 SHGs in East Godavari district paving the way for their empowerment, according to Y. Prasad, bank’s Deputy General Manager. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday on the eve of launching a special drive `AB celebrations 2007’, he said the zone also stood first in the country under the bank assurance by mobilizing 33,500 policies. Explaining the salient features of the special drive being launched from August 13 to September 24, he said it was aimed at strengthening the retail deposit portfolio by mobilizing opening of savings bank and current deposit accounts in a big way.
