All-party meet sought on town beautification

KADAPA: CPI(M) district secretary B. Narayana on Friday demanded convening of an all-party meeting to discuss the town beautification proposals and minimise loss to poor families.

Warning that the party would launch an agitation at a press conference here, he demanded evolving of proposals that would avert untoward hardships to poor people. Recalling that municipal corporators assured to strive to safeguard people's interests, he said people would not spare them if they acted to the contrary.

Undertaking beautification of Kadapa town without improving facilities in slum areas was dubious, the CPI(M) leader alleged. He demanded completion of beautification of Buggavanka stream course before commencing town beautification works.

Municipal Corporation officials declared 637 houses as encroachments and served notices for their demolition within a fortnight. Those being affected should be compensated for and rehabilitated lest the party should ensure that they did not move out, he cautioned.

Patta lands should be resumed by paying compensation and not by use of force, Mr. Narayana stated. CPI(M) leaders--C. Babu and S. Sudhakar--also took part.
