All Andhra Bank branches to have core banking

Kakinada: The Kakinada zone of Andhra Bank has targeted a total business of Rs. 4,265 crores by the end of the current financial year. As on December 31, 2008, the business stood at Rs. 3,770 crore, according to bank’s deputy general manager B.S. Rama Rao.

Addressing a press conference at the bank’s zonal office here on Saturday, Mr. Rao said the bank was in the process of converting all of its 102 branches into Core Banking Solution (CBS) branches. Fifty nine branches have already been made compliant with CBS banking.

The gross Non-Performing Assets accounted for 0.56 per cent of the advances (Rs. 10.72 crores).

With the objective of rendering better services, the bank was organising customer service meetings at all branches on January 27 to take the feedback of customers and other clients.

A total of 28,816 self-help groups were financed to the tune of Rs. 300 crore as on December 31, 2008.

The bank’s new products were: Internet banking for both individuals and corporates, mobile banking wherein SMS alerts are given for transactions of more than Rs. 10,000, withdrawal of Rs. 200 and above from ATMs, deposit maturing dates, cheque rejection etc and sale of 4, 8 and 10 gram Swiss-made gold coins.

Awareness campaign

The Department of Field Publicity of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, organised an information and education campaign on Iodine Deficiency Disease (IDD) at Pedamallapuram village in Sankhavaram mandal on Saturday.

Participating as the chief guest, Pratthipadu MLA Varupula Subba Rao said people, particularly women and children, should use iodized salt to improve their physical and mental condition and observed that ignorance was the root cause of health hazards like goiter, paralysis, dwarfness etc afflicting the public.

Presiding over the meeting, Field Publicity Officer of East and West Godavari districts M.S. Mahesh said IDD was actually prevalent in 283 out of 310 vulnerable villages all over India.
