Rejects charge that he had hired Azeez Reddy

Abhinava gave Rs. 40 lakh to Nikhil Reddy who was producing a sequel to ‘The Angrez’

Neither the film ‘Angrez-2’ was completed nor the money paid even after deadline

HYDERABAD: Abhinava Reddy, who had been evading police since he was accused of hiring slain ‘gangster’ Azeez Reddy to settle a monetary dispute, surrendered before police on Thursday.

The 28-year-old youngster surrendered before the Commissioner’s Task Force officials and was later handed over to the Banjara Hills police. Abhinava Reddy, however, rejected the charge that he had hired Azeez Reddy.

Dispute

“I don’t know anything. All that I did was telling one of my close friends about the monetary dispute I had with film producer Nikhil Reddy,” he said. The youth maintained that he gave Rs. 40 lakh to Nikhil Reddy who was producing a sequel to the film ‘The Angrez’.

According to Abhinava Reddy, the film producer had assured to return the money immediately after the release of the film ‘Angrez-2’ on November 23.

Neither the film was completed nor the money paid even after the deadline. That was when he appraised ‘one of his close friends about the financial problem’.

Declining to name the ‘close friend’, Abhinava Reddy maintained he didn’t know whom the former had approached in the matter.

“I came to the police on my own to explain facts about the whole issue,” he said.

The youngster condemned the allegation that he and his father Hanumanth Reddy, an employee of Transport Department, threatened the film producer taking the gangster’s name.

He pointed out that Nikhil Reddy didn’t mention his father name in the complaint lodged with the police.

The Banjara Hills Inspector E. Shankar Reddy said Abhinava Reddy’s claims would be verified.

Hanumanth Reddy would be arrested if any evidence against his complicity in the case was found, he added.
