HYDERABAD: Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar has been selected for the prestigious ANR award instituted in the name of thespian Akkineni Nageswara Rao.

The award will be presented to the legendary singer at a special ceremony on February 1 at Hotel Taj Krishna at 10.30 a.m.

Chief Minster K. Rosaiah will be the chief guest and Union Minister for Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh will be the guest of honour for the programme.

Selection panel

Selection committee chairman T. Subbarami Reddy along with committee members, including Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor and Tollywood producer D. Rama Naidu selected Lata Mangeshkar for the award, said legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao at a press conference here on Monday.

Constituted by Akkineni International Foundation Trust, the award, which carries prize money of Rs. 4 lakh, would be presented to Ms. Lata Mangeshkar in recognition of her contribution for the development of the film industry in the country.

Padma Bhushan Dev Anand was the first actor to receive the first ANR award in 2006.
