Displaced women submit memorandum at DRO office

VISAKHAPATNAM: The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has sought immediate granting of a special package for fisherwomen who have lost their livelihood due to the Gangavaram project but were not provided any relief under the compensation package.

The displaced women, who were members of the Sharada Matsya Mahilala Sahakara Sangham, went to the District Revenue Office under the aegis of AIDWA District Committee and submitted a memorandum.

The displaced women said that their job was to sell the fish, caught by their husbands at sea, in the market. This has been their livelihood for generations. They said that they have been submitting memoranda to the officials but no action has been taken so far.

Slogans shouted

The participants raised slogans outside the Collectorate demanding justice.

AIDWA District president M. Sujata, secretary Prabhavathi, Steel Plant Division secretary K. Venu, Sharada Matsya Mahila Sahakara Sangham president K. Devi and secretary Y. Pentamma were among those who attended.
