A step forward: Shivaji

GUNTUR: Member of Parliament Rayapati Sambasiva Rao has expressed happiness at the number of projects sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh and described it as a collective effort of the MPs from the State. The budget was a step forward to bring in privatisation in infrastructure, said former Rajya Sabha member Yelamanchili Shivaji.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary D. Rama Devi described the railway budget as one for the haves and for the ruling classes. Most disappointing was lack of provision for new trains from Guntur, she added.

Reacting to the budget, the Guntur MP said that Guntur-Tenali-Repalle railway line doubling was a welcome gesture and long-pending demand of people of the region, which would allow running of the circular trains between Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali.

The survey for the rail line between Bapatla-Nizampatnam and Repalle would provide port connectivity and Guntur-Guntakal line doubling survey would also be taken up. The former Rajya Sabha member opined that State government had not made any provision for the railway projects and to say that it would participate by investing 50 per cent of the cost of the projects was unbelievable and raises doubts that the government would bring in private investment, a beginning to privatisation of the railways.
