4 lakh acres forest land to be given to poor occupants

HYDERABAD: The Government has drawn up plans to distribute over eight lakh acres of land to the landless poor by the end of May. This is in addition to 4.37 lakh acres of land distributed earlier.

As against this huge target, nearly 1.66 lakh acres will be distributed under the fourth phase of land distribution programme which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Tirupati on January 19.

Arrangements are being made to lend a festive atmosphere to all places where land will be distributed till January 24 to highlight the new status of the beneficiaries . In light of the recent enactment by the Centre to allow ownership rights over forest land occupied by the poor, an additional 4 lakh acres in this category will be transferred during April-May under a separate programme.

The Government will also issue title-deeds to tenants cultivating tenancy lands in Telangana region by amending Section of 38 (E) of the Telangana Tenancy Act through an ordinance shortly. Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao interacted with the Collectors and Joint Collectors of nine districts of Telangana at a meeting here on Tuesday and asked them to go ahead with the plan to issue title-deeds to the tiller-tenants.
