77 vigilance cases pending against MCH officials

HYDERABAD, NOV.29 . There are 77 vigilance cases pending against officials of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. The cases have been filed by the Vigilance and Enforcement cell of the Corporation and pertain to many sections with a majority of them listed against the Town Planning section.

These details came to the fore during a high-level official review meeting on the pending vigilance cases of the Municipal Administration Department at the Secretariat here on Monday. The meeting was a precursor to a review called by the Chief Secretary later this week. This was done following a directive from the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, recently.

Issues discussed

The MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran, was also learnt to have discussed the pending cases and the follow up action.

Most of the cases in the Town Planning section were based on large-scale deviations in building plans, encroachment of Government lands including parks, illegal constructions, violation of building plans and zonal regulations, etc.

Major violations were reported in the posh Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills area.

Cases have been pending for the last four years and the Vigilance and Enforcement cell is said to have recommended penal action against officials identified for their role.

Cases have been being dragged over the years and save a few notable exceptions, penal action is kept pending due to strong power and political connections allowing the guilty to go scot-free, official sources said.
