35 cr. sanctioned for channel modernisation work: Minister

SRIKAKULAM: Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, on Monday, said that Rs.35 crores was sanctioned for modernisation of five open head channels, including the Bhairidesigedda open channel. This was part of Government effort to find permanent solution to the problem of water for irrigation in the district. The modernisation work of Narayanapuram irrigation canals would also be taken up with Rs.16 crore the Minister added. Addressing a meeting after inauguration of an Anganwadi centre in Karajada village the Minister said problems arose out of power-cuts because of the gap between generation and demand.
