They allegedly posted fake messages

Three juveniles were arrested for allegedly spreading rumours on social media that a dreaded gang that kidnaps children, extracts their brain and eats them, was apprehended. Three mobile phones were seized from them, Kurnool Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jatti said on Sunday.

Nandyal police arrested the three who allegedly posted a picture and a voice message on Whatsapp stating that three persons who allegedly killed 50 children and ate their brains were caught in Kodur. They shared it with 31 persons, causing fear psychosis among the people, the SP told the media here.

Nandyal Rural CI G. Ramakrishna Reddy and Mahanandi SI Peddaiah Naidu registered a case and apprehended the trio, the SP said.

Stating that the rumours spread on the social media on movement of Parthi, Chaddi and Bihari gangs and child kidnappers led to 15 attacks on innocent persons, the mentally-challenged and strangers in the district, Mr. Gopinath advised people to alert the police if they suspected anyone, but not attack them. He warned of stern action against those spreading fake messages to cause fear among people.
