Elderly woman was assaulted, 12 tola gold looted

Three people including a juvenile and a girl were arrested on Monday in connection with a robbery and physical assault of an 82-year-old woman.

On July 5, the gang members allegedly sprayed chemical on the face of N. Lakshmi Narasamma, gagged her with cotton and made good with at least 12 tolas of gold from her house in Machilipatnam.

Strategic silence

“The accused include a juvenile while another has been identified as Bala Saisuma, a staffer of the local city cable office. Anonymity is being maintained about the third accused to speed up the investigation,” Superintendent of Police Sarvasresth Tripathy told the media here on Monday.

According to police, Bala Saisuma, who is known to the victim’s family, allegedly hatched the plan for the robbery.

CCTV footage yields vital clues

Mr. Tripathy said the footage obtained from CCTV cameras installed in the areas provided the key evidence.

The juvenile has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board while the remaining two accused have been produced before the local court.
