3 charred to death as car goes up in flames

Fuel tank explodes after the four-wheeler collides with coal-laden lorry

KHAMMAM: Three persons were charred to death as the car in which they were travelling went up in flames after colliding with a lorry near Annarugudem village in Tallada police station limits at 6.45 a.m. on Monday.

According to the police, the car was engulfed in flames as the fuel tank exploded on the impact of the collision. The occupants of the car had no chance to escape.

Passersby made all-out efforts to go to the rescue of one of them, who was screaming for help in the back seat, but they failed to reach him. By the time fire tenders reached the spot, the damage had been done. The bodies were charred beyond recognition.

The police said the vehicle belonged Hyderabad and efforts were on indentify the victims and contact their family members.

The coal-laden lorry involved in the accident was also burnt partially.

The lorry was on its way from Kothagudem to Ibrahimpatnam when the accident occurred. The lorry driver was arrested. The police registered a case and were investigating.
