29 selected for Ugadi Puraskarams

Kalaratna awards will also be presented to five persons today



HYDERABAD: The State government has selected 29 prominent persons in 12 fields for the Ugadi ‘puraskarams’ and five for Kalaratna Awards-2008 to be presented by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on April 7 in connection with ‘Sarvadhari Nama Ugadi’.

Thirty veda pandits will also be honoured by Dr. Reddy.

Cash award

Each Ugadi Puraskar winner will receive cash award of Rs.5,116 and a citation, while a Kalaratna awardee gets Rs.30,000, a commendation and a shawl, besides a “Hamsa jnapika”.

The Kalaratna award winners are: Avanthsa Somasunder (literature), Chittaranjan (music), Kalakrishna, Ananda Shankar Jayant, Vanaja Uday (dance), Sripathi (painting), D. Yesanna (folk).

The Ugadi Puraskar winners are: Literature: C.V. Subbanna (avadhanam), Janamaddi Hanumashastri (research), Dasi Basavayya, Shikhamani (poetry), Kovela Sampathkumaracharya (literary critic), Kapilavaayi Lingamurthy (literary research), K.V. Krishna Kumari, Perugu Ramakrishna (poet), Sesham Ramanujacharyulu (writer).

Music: Revathi Ranta Swamy (Karnatic), Snehalatha Murali, Chaitanya (Janapadam), Jonnalagadda Anuradha, K.V. Satyanarayana (Kuchipudi),Mohan (cartoonist).

Sculpture: Satish Odayar, R. Mallikarjuna Rao, Journalism: M.V.R. Sastry, Theatre: Nalluri Venkateswarlu, Venkata Rathaiah, N.S. Raju, Magic: Chokkapu Venkataramana, M.S. Reddy, Harikatha: Simhachala Sastry, Burrakatha: Sabbi Kanaka Rao, Medicine: K. Krishnaiah, B.C.M. Prasad and Pravasandhra Kala Peetham: Radhakrishnam Raju and others.
