21 gram panchayats merged into RMC

The State Government’s notification to merge 21 villages into limits of Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation (RMC) and final stage of Master Plan is paving way to declare Greater Rajahmundry. It has to be recalled that government on Monday has issued G.O.99 to de-notify 21 Gram Panchayats for inclusion into RMC and notified the same on the same day. With this the government has also alerted the limits of the RMC from present 5 km. radius to 10 km. by including the following areas of the erstwhile gram panchayats of East Godavari District with immediate effect.

The 21 panchayats which were included in RMC include Katheru, Namavaram, Kolamuru, Velugubanda, Palacherla, Rajanagaram, Lalacheruvu, Narendrapuram, Pidimgoyyi, Venkatanagaram, Chakradwarabandham, Nidigatla, Hukumpeta, Gadala, Satellite city, Madhurapudi, Bommuru, Thorredu, Dowleshwaram, Burugupudi, Rajavolu. However, the Diwancheruvu Panchayat is not included as its’ matter is pending in High Court.

Now, there is no scope for any gram panchayat to go to court as it was done in the past over the powers and completion of the term. “There was no co-incidence in the past that both Corporation and Gram Panchayats term were expired at the same time.

So there was a scope for getting stay orders from the courts”-said former Minister Gorantla Butchaih Chowdary.

According to Municipal Commissioner M. Jitendra, the merger and Master Plan will pave way for Greater Rajahmundry by next year. He said that while Master Plan is getting ready by RV Associates of Hyderabad, the government has announced merging of 21 gram panchayats and now they will ask the agency to expand the purview from 13 villages (for which Master Plan is ready) to 21 villages. Mr. Saibabu, City Planner said that merger of panchayats and implementation of Master Plan is not for generating only additional revenue, but also for developing the city in a planned manner.

Once the government declares Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Warangal as Greater Cities, these Cities will get overall development in terms of industrialisation, infrastructure, tourism, beautification and other development.
