184 IKP procurement centres for paddy

MSP of Rs. 930 per quintal for A grade, Rs. 900 for normal variety of paddy

Target of procuring about 3 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during rabi season set

KARIMNAGAR: In the wake of expected bumper harvest of paddy crop during this rabi season, the district administration has chalked out to strategies to open 184 Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) procurement centres for the procurement of paddy by providing minimum support price to the farmers.

Accordingly, Collector Sandeep Kumar Sultania has conducted a review meeting with the district IKP, agriculture, civil supplies and revenue authorities in Karimnagar town on Thursday. The Collector said that all the IKP procurement centres would function from Friday and start procurement of farm produce in the villages. He informed that the officials to maintain a low-key affair and not to invite public representatives and others for the IKP centres in the wake of implementation of mode code of conduct.

He said that they would provide MSP of Rs. 930 per quintal for the A grade variety of paddy and Rs. 900 per quintal for the normal variety of paddy. He said that they would also open procurement centres in all marketyards with the help of civil supplies and Food Corporation of India authorities.

Joint Collector Ch Vijay Mohan said that they had set a target of procuring about 3 lakh metric tonnes of paddy through IKP centres in the district during this rabi season. He said that they would supply tarpaulin sheets, moisture meters, weighing scales and paddy cleaners to all IKP centres. He said that they would also distribute gunny bags to all the centres and made arrangements for the transportation of the procured paddy to the godowns.

The farmers were informed to thoroughly clean their paddy before getting to the procurement centres to secure the MSP. DRDA project director Ravinder, DSO Narsimha Reddy, JD (agriculture), M. Ramesh, the RDOs and others were also present.
