1,800-cr. crop loan fixed for 2010-11 season

Unique identification number given to farmers to be used to weed out bogus passbooks

Anantapur: Collector B. Janardhan Reddy said that a target of Rs.1,800 crore crop loan has been fixed for the district for the crop year 2010-11 year. Addressing a press conference at the local DWAMA conference hall here on Wednesday Mr. Janardhan Reddy revealed that the crop loans included rabi and kharif crop loans including rescheduled old loans of the farmers.

The Collector stated that a unique identification number will be given to the farmers possessing passbooks.


This identification number will be used to weed out bogus passbooks and ensure that government benefits reach only the targeted sections of the beneficiaries. The unique identification number passbooks will also help them fetch loans including tractor loans. Mr. Janardhan Reddy stated that certain instances of farmers tampering with the numbers in the passbooks with regard to the acreage owned by the farmers, had come to his notice.

Some of the farmers were tampering with the original figures relating to extent of land owned by them in order to gain financial mileage by projecting wrong figures. Some of the farmers he said were, by projecting false and inflated figures, claiming excess loan as well as excess crop insurance amounts.

Legal action

Apart from legal action, criminal cases will be booked against such offenders.

When the Collector's attention was drawn to the issue of bankers refusing to give education loans to the poor students, the Collector promised to look into the matter and also study the suggestion for exclusive education loan melas so that the poor students too could apply for the loan and get their applications cleared on the spot.
