10 lakhs for restoration of Islamia school

HYDERABAD, FEB. 26. The Union Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Bandaru Dattatreya, has announced Rs. 10 lakhs towards the construction and restoration of Islamia High School building near Monda market in Secunderabad.

The school has a history of more than 120 years and the former President, Zakir Hussain, had studied here. The main building is badly in need of repairs and a new block was needed to accommodate students of all three media.

Total expenditure for the restoration works was estimated to be Rs. 50 lakh and the school is planning to have several fund-raising schemes soon, according to the society vice-president, Zafar Javeed. Mr. Javeed said it was proposed to name the new block after Dr. Zakir Hussain. He appealed to NGOs, philanthropists and the Government to extend support to the school set up in 1882. The 125th anniversary of the school is to be celebrated on a grand scale next year.
