Telugu film bags award

HYDERABAD Nov. 24. The Telugu film, ` Tiladaanam -- The Rite .. A Passion' has won the Best Film Award at the Seventh Pusan International Film Festival in its New Currents Section, according to a press release by its director, K.N.T. Sastry.

The film emphasises the role of money in a modernised society and each frame stresses, either visually or aurally, how money has influenced both traditionalists and revolutionaries alike.

This is the first Indian film to receive the award. The 'New Currents' section serves to promote emerging film talent in Asia by selecting the best new film by an Asian director.

The film, produced by the National Film Development Corporation, has already been shown at the Vancouver and Montreal festivals and has been invited to the Rotterdam and Buenos Aries festivals in the coming months.
