Shedding light on a successful social campaign

A new book documenting an educational movement for girls in north-western Rajasthan through “Balika Shikshan Shivirs” was released here to mark the extension of the global “Girls not brides” campaign. Experts called for renewed efforts to educate young girls instead of marrying them off at a young age.

Titled “Beyond Novella: Memoirs of Change”, the 90-page book throws light on the campaign through which thousands of girls were educated in six-month-long fully residential educational camps since 1995.

The book was released by Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Deepak Kalra and Harideo Joshi University of Journalism & Mass Communication Vice-Chancellor Sunny Sebastian. Authored by Deepika Nayyar, the book has sketches and illustrations drawn by the girls. .
