New Delhi Oct. 5. Undaunted by Tuesday's tragic mid-air collision of two Naval aircraft near Goa, the Indian Air Force today went ahead with a display of a spectacular flypast by 31 aircraft as a rehearsal for its 70th anniversary on October 8.

The IAF put up a 15-minute flypast in Palam technical area in which the participants included the thrust vector Sukhoi-30 and deep-penetration strike aircraft, the Jaguars. The aircraft, according to IAF officials, flew in formation just 20 feet apart unlike in Goa where the Naval Maritime Reconnaissance IL-38 aircraft were flying almost 100 feet apart when they collided.

The climax of the air show was an 18-minute synchronised flying display by the surya kiran aerobatic team.

The Chief of the Air Staff, S. Krishna Swamy, supervised the preparations for the grand ceremony. As part of the anniversary, the IAF is also organising elaborate celebrations, including a cultural show and investiture parades. — PTI
