Retd. Vice-Admiral killed in road accident

NEW DELHI OCT. 10 . Vice-Admiral (retd.) N.P. Dutta was killed when a Greenline bus, that apparently went out of control, rammed his car in New Delhi this morning.

The speeding bus pushed the vehicle for some distance, uprooted a traffic signal, jumped the central verge and came to a halt after ramming the rear boundary wall of Rajmata Gayatri Devi's bungalow on Max Mueller Marg. The incident took place around 7-15 a.m., when the 81-year-old Vice-Admiral was nearing the Lodhi Road-Max Mueller Marg T-point. The bus, plying on route No. 522, coming from Max Mueller Marg, suddenly veered and hit the car on the right side.

Vice-Admiral Dutta, who sustained serious head injuries, was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Manoj Kumar Lall, available evidence suggested that the accident was due to the bus driver's fault. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered by the Tughlak Road police station.

Vice-Admiral Dutta retired in 1974 and was living with his family at Mehrauli in South Delhi.
