IMPHAL: The ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) legislature party in an emergency meeting, held on Friday night, resolved "to do everything to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur."

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi sent letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi reminding them of the resolution of the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA to protect existing territories. The meeting was held in the light of the threat by the United Committee (UCM) to disclose the names of those Ministers and MLAs who had sent a memorandum to the Prime Minister requesting him to create Greater Nagaland by merging the Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh with Nagaland.

A UCM press release said that on May 27 Ministers and MLAs from both the ruling and the Opposition parties in Manipur had sent the memorandum.

Unification of the Naga-inhabited areas with Nagaland tops the agenda of the peace talks between the Government and the Issac-Muivah faction of the NSCN. Elected representatives and people of the three states have been opposing the NSCN(I-M)'s demand.
